Mantis shrimp (Stomatopods)
Mantis shrimps are mere inches long but can throw the fastest punch of any animal. They strike with the force of a rifle bullet and can shatter aquarium glass and crab shells alike. Some larger species of mantis shrimp are capable of breaking through aquarium glass with a single strike from this weapon. Actually, they are not related to shrimp, but are referred to as shrimp because of their front appendages and how they use them to capture food. And they come in what seems like an endless variety of species. Around 400 species of mantis shrimp have currently been described worldwide; all living species are in the suborder Unipeltata.
